Hike for Hospice

Have fun while making a difference! Hike for Hospice is an annual walk with our community to raise awareness and support for Hospice of Southern Maine’s nonprofit mission to provide compassion, care, and comfort through the end of life for patients with life-limiting illnesses and their families.

Registration

Register as an individual, become a captain of a new team, or join an existing team! Registration includes a Hike for Hospice shirt (while supplies last) and local food and refreshments.

Join us for a beautiful autumn walk starting at our Hospice Center in Scarborough and connecting with the Eastern Trail. There will be music, Holy Donuts, prizes, a kids' scavenger hunt, lawn games, local partner-provided food and beer, and lots of community spirit as we walk the 2.25 or 4.5-mile routes. Together, we can make each step count and raise awareness and funds for hospice care in southern Maine. Children and leashed dogs are welcome!

In-Person Walk

All walkers will meet at HSM's Hospice Center, located at 390 US Route One in Scarborough, and walk from there to connect with the Eastern Trail. Walkers will have the option of a 4.5-mile loop or a 2.25-mile route with shuttle back to the Hospice Center. In addition to the walk, there will be music, kids' activities, prizes, lawn games, and local partner-provided treats including pre-walk donuts and coffee and post-walk food and beer.

Schedule of the Day

9:30am: Registration, check-in, and shirt pick-up open

10:00am: Welcoming remarks and prize announcements

10:15am: Walk begins

11:00am: Post-Walk food and beer available

1:00pm: Event ends

Route Options

Get ready to see some foliage! From our campus at 390 US Route One, walkers will turn left onto Lincoln Avenue to Washington Avenue, then left on Washington Avenue to the Eastern Trail connector at the Scarborough Town Public Works, then right onto the Eastern Trail and follow that until they reach Pine Point Road (Rt. 9). From the Hospice Center to Pine Point Road is approximately 2.25 miles. From there, walkers can either take a shuttle back to the Hospice Center or walk back along the same route for a total walk of 4.5 miles.

​Please be assured that during the event, Lincoln Avenue will be one lane/one way traffic between the Hospice Center and Washington Avenue with police officers on site to enforce traffic patterns and ensure safety for all.

Virtual Walk

In keeping with the tradition of the past four years, we invite you to Hike for Hospice however you feel most comfortable. Participating virtually means you can walk whenever you'd like through October 31, 2025, and you can choose your own route! You may choose to participate virtually and still attend our in-person walk on October 25th. No matter what, you're supporting a great cause, and your support makes all the difference. 

Get creative and share your virtual experience by posting photos and videos to your personal fundraising page and on social media with the hashtags #hikeforhospice2025 and #hospiceofsouthernmaine! Not on social media? No problem! Email your photos and videos to give@hospiceofsouthernmaine.org. Make each step count and share your Hike for Hospice with everyone! 

Frequently Asked Questions

  • Hike for Hospice participants should park in HSM's Hospice Center parking lot located at 390 US Route One in Scarborough. We ask that you enter from Route One and exit via Lincoln Avenue. Carpooling is encouraged! Volunteers will be on site to assist on event day.

  • Walkers should arrive between 9:30-10am. Registration check-in and shirt pick-up will open at 9:30am followed by welcoming remarks and prize announcements at 10am. The walk will begin soon after.

  • Our walk from the Hospice Center to Pine Point Road by way of the Eastern Trail is approximately 2.25 miles. From Pine Point Road, walkers can either take the shuttle back to the Hospice Center or walk back along the same route for a total walk of 4.5 miles.

  • Yes, children and dogs are welcome at the in-person event and do not need to register to attend. All dogs must be on a leash.

  • Hike for Hospice will take place as scheduled rain or shine! In the event of inclement weather conditions, please bring an umbrella and anything else you need to be safe and comfortable.

  • Shirts will be available at our 390 US Route One location in Scarborough starting October 15th. 

  • Yes! Just be sure to mention the change when you check in at the registration table at the event. 

  • Online registration will close at 12:00pm on Friday, October 24th. After that point, those wishing to register for the in-person walk on the 25th may do so in person at the event starting at 9:30am.
